| Saturday Jun 22, 2002 | Television spinoffs are one thing, but a fictional universe that contains multiple shows is another. NBC is a good example: Kramer from Seinfeld is the landlord of Paul Buckman (from Mad About You)'s bachelor apartment; Ursula from Mad About You is the twin sister of Phoebe from Friends. In addition, Urkel from Family Matters (itself a spinoff of Perfect Strangers) crashed a jet back into the cast of Step By Step -- one of whose characters, Dana, made an appearance on the show Boy Meets World. While the obvious motive for such connections is increased marketshare (after all, link a new series to a known good one to increase brand recognition), it's amusing that the linking series almost always outlive the linked ones.

| Monday Jan 10, 2000 | Bruce Campbell has a new TV show called Jack of All Trades, where he battles the most evil enemy of all -- the French. It's being paired with some other syndicated show called Cleopatra 2525, where scantily clad women get chased underground by killer robots and "discover Cleopatra, an aspiring actress and part-time exotic dancer who suddenly awakens from a cryogenic deep freeze, having lapsed into a coma during cosmetic surgery in the year 2001." | Tuesday Dec 21, 1999 | A new Fox TV show takes old-fashioned concepts like "dowry", "gold digging", and, dare we say it, "prostitution", and updates them for a new generation. It's a whole new way to look at romance (after these important messages). to Television by faisal |
| Tuesday Dec 14, 1999 | A long time ago in a galaxy far far away (the 70's), someone greenlighted one of the most horrible creations ever to deface the boob tube: the Star Wars Holiday Special. This review maybe makes it sound like it's so bad it's good, and in some ways, I guess it is, but in most other ways, it's sort of like putting live hornets in your ass. to Television by faisal |

| Monday Nov 29, 1999 | There is good television, bad television, and a whole mess of middling television; see repesntative samples of each at the Museum of Television and Radio. Now on both coasts! to Television by goboro |
| Friday Nov 5, 1999 | In a world filled with sitcoms whose plot every week could be described by "something happens and then zany hilarity ensues," there is a tendency to try and break the "sitcom" mold completely like
Ally McBeal or SportsNight, but there is one show which shows that strong character driven comedy can still thrive in a situation comedy framework.
That show would be Cosby. It features Bill Cosby as a retired baggage handler. The cast includes one of my very favorite actors, Doug E. Doug, plus
Phylicia Rashad, Madeline Kahn, and T'Keyah Crystal Keymah. It even has my favorite comedic actor Wallace Shawn in a recurring minor role.

| Monday Oct 11, 1999 | The thing that makes me so mad about network television is that spineless programming weasels will ditch a wonderful and innovative show (that they commissioned) simply because there's a little violence and a gratuitous shot of dog feces. I'm talking about David Lynch's latest foray into television, Mulholland Drive, which seems to have been shot down by ABC before it could get off the ground. Read Lynch's grousing about this latest screwing-over by network television or, better yet, read the script for the pilot episode and dream about what might have been. to Television by crikey |
