Those of us who grew up in the 80s can't help but notice the visual similarity between upcoming movie Titan A.E. and the laserdisk game Space Ace. It's not your imagination - the prolific Don Bluth was the chief artist of Space Ace as well as director/animator of Titan A.E. Well-respected in animation circles, Bluth holds production credits on dozens of high-powered animation projects including An American Tale and Land Before Time.

We've all heard of the age-old dispute of Evolution vs. Creationism and most of us will remember the Creationists' recent forays into the US education system, but let's not forget that the theory of evolution is not undisputed in the science community either. Do check out this topical index on the matter.

The nicest interface of some time can be found at Zero-Xenon-26, but that's not all - contentwise the site offers free fonts and a most impressive "speaking machine" for polishing up your Japanese pronounciation with the help of a sampled baby.

Too busy slaving away at your dot com job to attend your father's 50th birthday party? No problem. Now you can clone yourself (almost) with Rent-A-Relative. Better check their fee schedule first. Dysfunctional family is a $25 surcharge.

"Gaydar" used to be a word that meant one could easily identify people who are gay. Now it's an electronic device that will beep (or vibrate) when within 50 feet of another Gaydar equipped person.

Another wrinkle in the grand MP3 Debate; the Coalition For The Future Of Music is mostly a manifesto at this point, but hey, it's an attempt to move away from the currently equally ugly choices.

There's the original Shaft. There are a couple of sequels. There's the new movie. And then, of course, there's the site everyone will be going to first, where you'll find out that there are no pumps, weights, or painful surgery and that great results can be achieved through exercise. And no, you can't get results that way.

Both the Latin wannabe and the quote collector in me thoroughly enjoyed Johanna's impressive (and useful) collection of Latin maxims and mottoes. In fact, you can find out all sorts of interesting things about Latin online, particularly regarding subjects like botany, prescriptions, or commonly used phrases. Or you can skip all that and just look up your name.

Paul Bourke has collected a large number of technical snippets, with special relevance to mathematics and engineering (including graphics, geometry, rendering, projection, fractals, and analysis). Most are embellished with beautiful illustrations.

In the vein of "Wicked" -- a novel that cleverly recasts the Wicked Witch of the West as a tragic political rebel -- and William Clifford's half-serious examination of the droids-as-slaves politics in "Star Wars", is "The Last Bearer of the Ring", a yet-to-be-translated Polish fantasy novel that retells Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings", showing us that Sauron was just a misunderstood, progress-minded technocrat brought to ruin by the decadent, elitist elves over a dispute about trade routes.

Disneyworld isn't the only place that otherwise staid women feel the urge to flash the camera. Most famously, there's Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but people also felt compelled to let it all hang out at Woodstock '99.

Do you consistently experience letters as certain colors, or certian textures or tastes? You may have synesthesia, which basically means the blending of two or more senses. People with synesthesia generally have it from childhood on, tend to be highly intelligent and artistic, and most of them experience synesthesia as pefectly normal.

It's your chance to date Jesus! Ok, maybe he's not really Jesus, but he does have "a lean swimmer's body and a six-pack". You can even win a chance to shower with him! He even provides a Frequently Asked Questions document, which answers the immortal question "Do you know that you are going to go to Hell?"

Tomorrow, June 3rd, is National Trails Day. Find a registered NTD event near you or just find a nearby trail and go for a hike (make sure to bring good boots). If you choose to stay in your air conditioned yuppie-cage, at least check out this kick ass map of US National Trails.

Originally from the UK, and produced in Japan, the music of Boa has only recently been popularized, mostly through their contributions to the incredible anime hit Serial Experiments: Lain. (They did the opening song) Their latest full-length album, Race of a Thousand Camels, is available, although not in the US, yet. You can, however, get t-shirts.

You thought you'd seen it all when it came to bizarre internet-based fetishes. Then again, you've probably never heard of Macrophilia, the sexual desire to become or roleplay a giant, and do very naughty things to little people or buildings. Or, of course, vice-versa. Often intertwined with Furry, that omnipresent Internet alterna-sexuality where folks roleplay anthropomorphic animals. Not always sexual in nature -- in fact, the Burned Furs are a splinter subgroup claiming that "Anthropomorphics fandom is being overrun by sexually dysfunctional, socially stunted and creatively bankrupt hacks and pervs". Riiight. Just don't mention zoophilia 'round these folks.
