John Cage's Suite for Toy Pianoand the Loser's Lounge performance of The Zombies' "Butcher's Tale" got the toy piano going in the 20th century. But now, they're extensible.

SuperHappyFun may be a dream come true for the eclectic film buff. Have you ever wanted to see Skidoo, Otto Preminger's attempt at an LSD picture, starring Jackie Gleason? Frighteningly, I've actually seen it in a theater, but that's not the point. (Sadly, I can't find a decent review on the web - try to find a copy of Bad Movies We Love by Edward Margulies and Stephen Rebello, or issue 6 of Shock Cinema). Most fans of Aki Kaurismaki have seen his film Leningrad Cowboys Go America. In fact, if you live outside of Finland, it may be the only film of his you've seen (although his latest was actually up for an oscar this year - color me astounded). Few, however, have probably seen the sequel Leningrad Cowboys Meet Moses. I know I haven't, although I've wanted to. Somewhere in between we find William Klein's Mister Freedom and the legendarily bad comic strip adaptation, Dondi (Yet another film with no decent web review). Sadly, if you don't know what you're looking for, the site is a nightmare to navigate. Thank [insert diety here] for the search box. Still, for some of the oddities here, it's worth the work.

Roy Wood and the Wombles (Not to be confused, naturally, with other Wombles). The Wombles are - depending on what source I look at - appear to be either bear-like things or rodent-like things. They started as children's fiction, apparently, and became recording artists. Roy Wood, on the other hand, was a founder and main songwriter for the incredibly influential band The Move. Both have done songs about Christmas: Roy - "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day"(), Wombles - "Wombling Merry Christmas". Now, due to... well, some unknown force that we should all fear, we have "I Wish It Could Be A Wombling Merry Christmas Everyday". There's even a video. What really frightens me is that I'm considering getting the CD.

I'm still unsure if this guy is serious (or not), but I am sure it has more "amen" per word than anything else I've seen. Apparently, anyone who's not part of his CHRISTIAN denomination (the Duck River Association of Baptist Churches) is going to HELL, including those "WAFER-GOD" worshiping Catholics. Examples of just how few of us understand (his) God can be found on the "Messages from the Damned" page. His FAQ is fascinating, telling us that asking him why he believes the King James translation of the bible is the real text is a "joke question" and that his Jesus-promised girlfriend is a fast-food waitress in Wisconsin, who has an unlisted number and who he can't visit because he has no car - but we should give her his email address. It must be interesting on his planet...

The cancellation of Doctor Who by the BBC over a decade ago has left fans of the series a bit hungry for more. Fortunately, people like The Federation have been making fan videos "since the Reagan administration". One of their recent efforts is to get some Doctor Who out on the web. "Make a 6 minute video and we'll put it on our website!" they say. And they have. Supposedly, one of them isn't even a complete joke. Personally, I recommend the 6 Minute Time Slacker video. If you're not screeching "FISHYSNAX" by the time it's over, there's something wrong with you.

As someone with an actual philosophy degree, I've always wondered what the hell I could do with it. Now I know. I particularly like the Dorothy Parker martini glasses and the Nietzsche and Van Gogh (with removable ear!) Brainy Beanies, although I may wait for them to make one of Wittgenstein.

It's not just old TV shows that are being turned into movies (often bad ones), but comics and cartoons. You can keep track of this at C2F. Sadly, the latest word on the adaptation of Alan Moore's The Watchmen is not positive.

I'm picky about my malt whiskies. I'm quite fond of the Dram Select 21 year bottling, which you can actually get here in the states without too much trouble. But for the connoisseur there are few places more absorbing than the Covent Garden Whisky Shop, located in (surprise!) London's Covent Garden. Unfortunately, although you can buy on-line, the shipping to the States is prohibitive. Good excuse for a trip overseas, though.

If you've got a rain of frogs on hand, Charles Fort would have been the man to call. Unfortunately, he's dead. Even though, given Fort's devotion to weird phenomena, that might not actually stop him, it's fortunate that many have carried on the study of Forteana. One of the best known current sources of information in this area is The Fortean Times, a magazine devoted to carrying on Fort's work. Sort of a Skeptical Inquirer for those not quite so skeptical.

"Quite simply, if you haven't seen this, your life is incomplete." This quote about The Curious Dr. Humpp really applies to the whole of the Something Weird video catalog. Something for everyone (except possibly one's parents): Blaxsploitation trailers, drive-in theater intermission films and so much more! Oh, and, of course, pornography. Frighteningly, they have started releasing DVDs.

The Brothers Schlemiel may or may not be the first serialized email novel, but it's certainly the first one about the town of Chelm. While you're there, read some of Mark Binder's other fiction, such as The Mr. Potato Head Murders or his cyber-novella, "How You Destroyed The Entire World (Almost)". Heck, while you're at it, publish some of his stuff.

It's your chance to date Jesus! Ok, maybe he's not really Jesus, but he does have "a lean swimmer's body and a six-pack". You can even win a chance to shower with him! He even provides a Frequently Asked Questions document, which answers the immortal question "Do you know that you are going to go to Hell?"

Letterboxing: Those black bars you see on your television screen when watching some movies. People both love and hate them. This guy, for some reason beyond mortal ken, thinks they're a form of censorship. Fortunately for the rest of us, it's fairly obvious that he's, um, a bit out of touch.

It is unfortunate that Britain's premiere pop musician/poet Martin Newell isn't more widely revered. Despite having such better known figures as Captain Sensible (late of the The Damned) and Andy Partridge of XTC work with him, Newell has trouble making a dent, particularly in the American market. Since about 98% of Martin's output is out of print, you may have to send to Germany to feed your jangly habit.

It's truly impressive how William Shatner has resurrected his career by, uh, I guess we can call it "singing"... Nevertheless, if you're like me, you don't watch enough television to see those truly surreal ads on a regular basis - What to do??? Fortunately(?) Priceline has put the ads on the web for us!
