| Thursday May 8, 2003 | SuperHappyFun may be a dream
come true for the eclectic film buff. Have you ever wanted to see Skidoo,
Otto Preminger's attempt at an LSD picture, starring Jackie Gleason?
Frighteningly, I've actually seen it in a theater, but that's not the
point. (Sadly, I can't find a decent review on the web - try to find a
copy of Bad Movies We Love by Edward Margulies and Stephen Rebello, or
issue 6 of Shock
Cinema). Most fans of Aki Kaurismaki
have seen his film Leningrad Cowboys Go America. In fact, if you live
outside of Finland, it may be the only film of his you've seen
(although his latest was actually up for an oscar this year
- color me astounded). Few, however, have probably seen the sequel Leningrad Cowboys
Meet Moses. I know I haven't, although I've wanted to. Somewhere in
between we find William Klein's Mister Freedom
and the legendarily bad comic strip adaptation,
Dondi
(Yet another film with no decent web review). Sadly, if you don't know
what you're looking for, the site is a nightmare to navigate. Thank
[insert diety here] for the search box. Still, for some of the oddities
here, it's worth the work.

| Monday Sep 24, 2001 | Roy
Wood and the Wombles (Not to
be confused, naturally, with other Wombles). The
Wombles are - depending on what source I
look at - appear to be either bear-like things or rodent-like
things. They started as children's fiction, apparently, and became
recording artists. Roy Wood, on
the other hand, was a founder and main songwriter for the incredibly
influential band The
Move. Both have done songs about Christmas: Roy - "I Wish
It Could Be Christmas Every Day"(),
Wombles - "Wombling Merry Christmas". Now, due to... well,
some unknown force that we should all fear, we have "I Wish
It Could Be A Wombling Merry Christmas Everyday". There's
even a video.
What really frightens me is that I'm considering getting the CD.

| Tuesday Jun 19, 2001 | I'm still unsure if this guy is
serious (or not), but I am sure it has more "amen"
per word than anything else I've seen. Apparently, anyone who's not
part of his CHRISTIAN denomination (the Duck River Association of
Baptist Churches) is going to HELL, including
those "WAFER-GOD" worshiping Catholics. Examples of just
how few of us understand (his) God can be found on the "Messages from the
Damned" page. His FAQ is fascinating, telling
us that asking him why he believes the King James translation of the
bible is the real text is a "joke question" and
that his Jesus-promised girlfriend is a fast-food waitress in
Wisconsin, who has an unlisted number and who he can't visit because
he has no car - but we should give her his email address. It must be
interesting on his planet...

| Friday Apr 13, 2001 | The cancellation of Doctor Who
by the BBC over a decade ago has left fans of the series a bit hungry
for more. Fortunately, people like The
Federation have been making fan videos "since the Reagan
administration". One of their recent efforts is to get some Doctor
Who out on the web. "Make a 6
minute video and we'll put it on our website!" they say. And they
have. Supposedly, one
of them isn't even a complete joke. Personally, I recommend the
6 Minute Time
Slacker video. If you're not screeching "FISHYSNAX" by the time
it's over, there's something wrong with you. to Television by dha |
